Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids

Omega-6 fatty acids, especially linoleic and gamma-linolenic acid, help maintain the skin's intercellular ceramide lipid layer, support barrier function and reduce water loss through the skin. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA promote the production of anti-inflammatory eicosanoids and help reduce the production of highly inflammatory mediators.

Linoleic acid, LA

Linoleic acid is essential for the formation and maintenance of the lipid layer of epidermal ceramides. It is this layer that forms the skin's protective barrier and helps control water loss through the skin.

Gamma-linolenic acid, GLA

GLA promotes the synthesis of anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, such as prostaglandin PG-1, and helps maintain the integrity of the skin as well as the proper maturation of keratinocytes.

EPA and DHA
