In thoroughbreds undergoing training or competing, the requirements for minerals (Ca, P, and Mg) and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, and E) are significantly higher than in horses on a maintenance regimen. It is therefore crucial to ensure an optimal supply of these nutrients in appropriate amounts without causing an excess. Excessively high doses can have just as negative an impact on a horse’s performance as a deficiency.
